Ed Kramer: A Master of Movie Magic

Remember the droid factory in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones?

How about the skittering scarab beetles in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns?

Or the T-Rex and dinosaur stampede in Jurassic Park II: The Lost World?

Who can forget the rock monster in Galaxy Quest?

The Kraken and pirate battles in Pirates of the Carribbean II?

The fiery lava planet in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith?

The mischievous monkeys in Jumanji?

The Quidditch course in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets?

The dramatic weather and ocean effects in Twister, Deep Impact and The Perfect Storm?

The multiplying puppies in 101 Dalmations?

And last but not least, how about Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace?

All these memorable movie experiences and many more are the work of visual effects master Ed Kramer.

A Senior Technical Director and Visual Effects Artist at Industrial Light and Magic for many years, Ed Kramer has been an integral part of making movie magic for some of the biggest blockbusters of all time, including being a part of a visual effects team winning the Academy Award for Pirates of the Carribbean II: Dead Man's Chest in 2006, as well as four Oscar Visual Effects nominations for Twister, The Perfect Storm, Star Wars Episode I and Star Wars Episode II.

Ed's animation gave creative impact to the radiantly memorable Columbia Pictures "Lady with a Torch" logo. His scientifically-oriented endeavors have included NASA simulations and virtual environments for surgeons. He also worked with Douglas Trumbull to design a large-screen multimedia ride experience for the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas.

The recipient of several Clio, Monitor and Broadcast Design awards, Ed's television projects include Stargate SG-I, as well as work for the Discovery Channel, ESPN, CNN, ABC & NBC Sports, CBS Evening News, Lifetime, Cinemax, TBS, Tribune Entertainment, Ford, Coca Cola, Hitachi and more.
